THERE ARE NO SECRETS TO THE GAME OF BASKETBALL. It all starts at the beginning with the fundamentals — shooting, passing, catching, dribbling ball handling and defending.

It’s about discipline and the ability to master the basic skills of the game. No shortcuts, just hard work and a passion for learning how to do things the right way every time. It is ultimately the difference between young players who will become great and those who will be average. It is a new way of looking at the game. It’s the Family First Basketball Academy.

The Family First Basketball Academy is led by our new Director of Basketball, Shane Allen and Don Myers. They have designed a coaching curriculum that will have a significant impact on the evolution of youth basketball in the Erie area — helping young players achieve their basketball dreams by helping them to master the skills it will take for them to be counted among the very best. It is important to note, however, that each and every player will be treated with the same amount of respect regardless of their skill level. The program will be focused on individual player development -- building a foundation of skills that include, shooting, proper footwork, dribbling, ball handling, pivoting, passing, catching, defending and more

Grade 1-2: Will feature an introduction to fundamental skills of the game. Through a combination of elementary drills, contsts and competitioin. The purpose s to develop a passion for the game along with the basic skill set that will be needed to progress to the next level. Hoops will be set to 8 feet in height to compensate for correct shooting mechanics and provide a great learning environment at this early age

Grades 3-6: Wll be focused on accelerated individual skill development in preparation for competitve basketball. There will be greater emphaiss on communication, mental focus and developing work eithic. Both group and individual drills will provide the required repetition for maximum skill development.

Limited Monthly Enrollment Format: Classes will be limited to the first 48 students to register for the October 6, 2008 start date. The format of the Academy follows a progressive year round curriculum but will consist of a monthly enrollment format that gives preference to any players who participated in the previous session. The classes will be offered on Tuesday or Thursday evenings and having a play day on Saturdays. The cost to the academy is $70/month.
