We want to make it as easy as possible to get started! Many new members tell us that joining a fitness facility can be both an exciting and intimidating experience. Following are some of the most common questions members ask during their first month or two with us:

Do I have to check in at the front desk every time I come in?
Yes. Our hand scan system is very simple and only takes a few seconds. This system ensures that only our members can access the clubs and they needn’t worry about remembering to bring in a membership card. Our friendly front desk staff will be available to help you, answer any questions you may have, or summon your personal trainer if you have an appointment.

How do I get a locker?
Lockers are available free of charge, you need only bring a combination or key lock to secure your belongings. Lockers are provided for day use only; please do not leave any personal items overnight.

Do I need to bring my own towel?
Members pay a (refundable) $20 deposit for a “Towel Token” which you exchange for a towel as you enter the facility. At the end of your workout, simply trade in your wet towel for your token and leave the laundry to us. You can discontinue your service at any time and get your deposit back.

How do I set up an appointment for my two free personal training sessions?
To get you started on the right foot, we offer you two complimentary sessions with a certified personal trainer. Your trainer will meet with you to discuss your fitness goals and interests and then set you up on a program, tailoring the length, frequency, and type of workout to your individual needs. Simply stop by or call the front desk to schedule your appointment. If you are unable to keep your appointment, please call as soon as possible so we can reschedule both you and the trainer.

Where is my workout program stored?
If you are logging your workouts, we have a filing system available right on the fitness floor for your convenience. You can store your log alphabetically and find it easily on your next visit.

How do I learn how to use all of the pieces of equipment?
It takes a while to learn each piece of equipment and understand which body part is being worked. Your first two personal training sessions will give you a thorough understanding of many of them. If you have any questions about a piece of equipment, please don’t hesitate to ask any floor instructor, easily identified by “STAFF” silk-screened on their backs. Trainers are always on duty and are specifically there to help you. If you cannot find one, notify the front desk staff and they will locate someone to assist you.

What if someone is using a piece of equipment I want to use?
You have a few choices:
• If you are doing a total body workout, you can move to the next machine and
come back when this piece of equipment is free.
• You can ask how many sets the other member has left and either “work in” or wait until
he/she is finished.
• To share equipment with another member or “work in,” simply ask, “may I work
in?” While the person is resting, you can do your set.
• When you take your turn, finish your set or exercise in a timely manner. Then
allow the other members a turn rather than resting on the equipment between sets.

When do I know it’s my turn to use a piece of cardio equipment?
At Nautilus, sign-up sheets are available on each piece of cardio equipment that will allow you to reserve a spot during the facility’s peak hours. 30-minute maximums are the limit on each reservation. At Family First, no sign up is necessary. For equipment-based classes (Body Pump, Spinning, and Stomp) sign-ups may be necessary to reserve your spot in the class. Ask an instructor for information.

Who will help me if I have a problem or complaint?
If you simply would like to express a comment, concern, or complaint, comment cards are available near the front desk. We will either address the concern immediately or contact you for more information. If you would like to discuss your topic in person, ask for a manager at the front desk and someone will promptly address your concern. E-mail your concern to [email protected]

What do I do when I’m finished with a piece of equipment?
As a courtesy to other members, please wipe off the equipment. Paper towel and spray bottles are readily available on the fitness floors. Please return all free weights and plates to their proper places on the racks.

Can I bring a guest with me?
If your guest is a local Erie area resident, they must be a first-time visitor over the age of 18, with a valid photo ID ( i.e. Driver’s License, Military credentials, College ID). To expedite club entrance, please call ahead to alert us that you are bringing a guest or confirm that you will be visiting at a time when our sales staff is available to assist you.
A liability waiver must be signed before entry is granted.

Out-of-town guests are also welcome. If accompanied by a member, the guest need only pay an $8 day rate. The “walk-in fee” is $15 for an out-of-town guest. A $50 week rate is available for guests on an extended stay. A valid photo ID must be shown and a liability waiver signed prior to entry.
